BLOG for SEO

The importance of BLOG from SEO point of view:

SEO and BlogRecently I was going through Yahoo answers when my eyes stopped at this question: Does having a Blog help boost my website’s page rank? What is the importance of Blog from the SEO point of view?

I think a lot of people are wondering about the same question. The answer to this is Yes, Blog does help your website get good recognition and it does have a significant importance according to Search Engines, however few conditions apply. The first condition is whether or not you have enough time to devote to the blog. Just having few posts on the blog and forgetting about it will have no impact either on your website or on the blog. There’s no point in having a blog if you can’t come up with fresh materials and no time to look after it. Your blog needs more attention than your webpage. The reason behind this is, your readers expect regular posts and if you can’t come up with new stuff, you not only lose your readers (could be your potential customers) but also page rank. I’d like to give you an example. When I first started working at this company, my boss asked me to handle two blogs: I devoted my time and energy to both and in no time both of them got page rank 3 and with proper advertisements I was getting quite good traffic and search results. But during the course of time one of the blogs had to be stopped for various reasons. So after just a month the one I regularly worked on still had good results while the one we stopped lost its page rank and traffic. 1 month can be a short period but without proper updates all the effort could go to waste. So before you follow other sheep, be sure that the herd is not leading you to a dessert.

Coming back to the question how blog helps you get good page rank is that search engines have utmost respect for webpages who frequently update their content. The updates on the webpage signify that the owner constantly pays attention to it. However it is quite unpractical to keep updating your website, hence they came up with something called blog. Blog is the place where you share your ideas, and people are thrilled to read and learn from it. It started as a personal diary but later people started to view it from the marketing perspective. Hence people started to share ideas and they got more traffic as it was a form of free information. The other benefit of having a blog is that once you get good traffic you can advertise about your web page. Posts about offers and discounts could lead the readers to your web page. Having a good content in blog specially keyword rich content help get good rank in search engines. If you can provide valuable content then other people would like to link to you hence helping in link popularity. Once you have good keywords in your blog, good backlinks and good traffic the search engines will surely rank it well.

The best part about blog is they are really easy to set up as they need no coding skills such as HTML or web coding. Few of the popular blog hosts are TypePad, Blogger and WordPress. There are two options to publish your blog to your existing web hosting:

1. Publish to your domain. For Example: www.webaddress.com/blog or blog.webaddress.com.
2. Publish to the blog hosts domain. For Example: www.blogspot.com/yourblog.

The first option is the better one as it helps boost your webpage’s rank along with the blog. Blogging takes a lot of time and creativity. If you can afford to give it extra time then blog is one of the best ways to boost your page rankings and if you cannot then it’ll be having an extra door that you never use. So make use of it, be creative and gain popularity through BLOG.

Blog Optimization

Blog Optimization

Blogs = Mushrooms! Yes blogs are popping out like mushrooms these days. Many companies own blogs but they have the least idea what to do about it. If you happen to be among those who already own a blog or at least planning to get one then well you need to make sure your blog stands out in the crowd, otherwise it’ll be just another blog in the World Wide Web. The best way to let your blog be SEEN is by optimizing it.

Difference between Blog and Website:
There is a difference between optimizing a blog and a website. Following the traditional method, optimizing a website is more about getting links by all means where as a blog focuses more on grabbing attention from people and giving them something to talk about. The enhanced features of blog are what make it better or informative than static sites. The enhanced features include:

  1. RSS feed makes it easier to notify and keep the readers updated about the latest posts.
  2. Readers can comment of posts. The comments on each posts acts as a unique content giving it better page rank.
  3. Social bookmarking sites like del.icio.us and digg lets the readers bookmark and rate your article by voting whether they like it or not. The more like its you get the better traffic there will be.

Why Optimize?
Optimizing your website is so much work, you must be wondering why optimize your blog. Well here are the reasons why optimizing a blog could be a better idea:

  • By optimizing your blog you can increase the search engine rankings both regular as well as blog or RSS.
  • The other reason to optimize your blog is to get more traffic from social bookmarking sites and social search.

Optimizing your Blog:

  1. Domain name, blog hosting and URL structure:
The first thing you need to check on is the domain name of your blog. There are many services like TypePad and Blogger available that provide hosting for your blog as their subdomain. This applies on websites as well. It is not a good idea to create your site or your blog under these free services. The disadvantages include: limited features and prohibition on placing ads. So it’ll be wise to start off with your own domain name provided by reliable hosting. It is also important that the URL structure of your blog doesn’t contain numbers and extraneous characters. Try to use sensible words that are short and easy to remember.
  2. Page Title and Heading:
You can use different page title for different post. Try to use the searchable keywords on the page title and relevant to your post. The headline of the post could be different from that of the page title but make sure they make sense. It is better not to stuff your page title and heading with keywords. Sensible, relevant page title and heading will works best for everyone.
  3. Keyword Selection:
You can make use of the free keyword research tools like wordtracker and google adwords keyword suggestion tool to find the popular key phrases. You can include these keywords on your post few times. Make sure the content is readable by humans and sounds natural. This theory applies on website optimization as well.
Blogs being a bit different from websites, you need to know what is in vogue. You can always keep yourself updated with the help of Technorati, Google News which provides you list of sites that can give you tons of information on the related topic. You can also make use of stumbleupon and bookmark the ones that interest you the most.
  4. Categories:
You can make use of the keywords while creating categories for your posts. Make sure the default category title is general and is relevant to all the post on your blog. If possible choose multiple categories for one post with regards to its relevancy.
  5. Comments and Trackbacks:
It is important that you provide a comment form at the bottom of each posts. These comments as mentioned early can help in great deal to get more traffic.

Advertising your blog:
Social bookmarking sites are the best place to advertise about your blog. You can also submit your blog on various RSS and blog directories. While reading blogs of others, you can always leave your valuable comment along with your blog address giving other users to link to you. Blogging could be a lot of fun if done in a proper manner. Happy Blogging!!

Bring more Traffic to your website, increase visibility and backlinks

The popularity of internet seems to rise immensely in the past few years. It brings along a greater demand for websites. The new success formula is: “Successful Business = Successful Website”. It’ll be a waste if you build one of the best websites and yet it remains unknown. In order to gain success on the internet, visibility hence is a must. The website should be visible to both search engines and the users. The best way to draw attention is to be on the first page of search engines’ results esp. on Google, Yahoo or MSN. Most internet users rely on search engines to find what they are looking for. If you had built a website about 10 years ago, visibility was the easiest thing. A little bit of keyword stuffing and the search engines crown you the first page ranking. The Search Engines however have become really choosy on this aspect for the past few years. Keyword stuffing or other traditional methods won’t do much good to impress them.

So how do you really impress search engines these days? The first thing you need to do is SEO (Search Engine Optimization). The other thing you can do is build inbound links. Inbound links are still given much preference by search engines. Getting one way links from popular sites have mainly two advantages: first your site gets indexed when the search engine spiders crawl the popular site and second is search engines think your link is important as it has been placed on a good ranked site. There are many methods to gain inbound links. The simplest way is to request the site owner to place your link on their website. It is simple but websites with high page ranks do not readily agree to place your link for free. You might have to pay them, exchange links with them or just look out for other websites since your page rank is not good enough for them. Yes it can get really depressing at times but hey no worries, I am here to help you with that. The other ways to increase your inbound links are as follows:

1. Pay Per Click (PPC):
If you cannot get on the first page of Google, Yahoo or MSN then PPC or Pay Per Click could be the thing for you. You bid for certain keywords and according to the clicks or the highest bid your advertisement with your URL will be listed on the search engine pages. This also is a good form of getting backlink or inbound link.

2. Social Networking:
Social networking is now the target for many marketers. With millions of users worldwide social networking is the best place to let the word out about your website. Go ahead open your own profile, let people know about you, your website, your expertise field and lots more. Here’s the list to start socializing on the internet.

3. Social Bookmarking:
Social bookmarking is similar to bookmarking in your browser. Wikipedia defines it as a method for internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet. These bookmarking sites are the best way to get one way links. The idea is to get your website bookmarked. The more it is bookmarked the better it is for your website. Here’s the list of popular social bookmarking sites.

4. Blog Comments:
It’s time to get a bit creative here. Smart comments, suggestions are usually welcomed by bloggers. If you love to read then this is the best way to get backlinks for your website. Read the posts, drop your piece of mind, leave your URL and there you go, you got another easy way to get inbound links.

5. Forums:
You can participate on forums related to your business which is another way of marketing and getting backlinks for your website. If you are an expert in your field you can always be a forum authority. A forum authority is someone who is referred to as an expert in a certain field by the members. Forums are all about interaction, so communicate, provide tips, suggestions and people will respond to you.

6. Wikipedia:
There are very few internet users who haven’t heard about Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia. You can sign in for free and provide information about various fields. You can even edit contents of wikipedia. This is an informative site so anything that sounds like product promotion might be banned. It will be wise to go through their terms and conditions before posting your view on Wikipedia.

These are the 6 simple ways to get inbound links and advertise about your website. Even if you’ve made the best website in the world, no one would know about it until you spread the word. So go ahead, a little bit of hard work and creativity will bear fruit for sure.
